they have a selection of spear units but no pikes, of the spear units maybe 2 are viable but only the Ilyrian noble hoplites have ANY killing potential.
They have 1 poor excuse for a cavalry unit, 2 axe units but they are both basically leves and would get wrecked by everyone and everything. Lets see the Ardiaei get Ilyrian noble hoplites and aside from that their other units are literally trash not even passable and certainly not suited to who they would be engaging early on. oh and if they run into someone with really heavy shock cav they have access to horse archers. they have access to hoplites as a holding force and axes to chew up other hoplite forces if necessary but really they just need to hold and sweep up from the rear with the shock cav.
So they have arguably one of the best mid tier cavalry in the game and have a passable shock cav. also their axe units were basically made to chew up the main hoplite lines they will encounter early on. their are far far worse factions then colchis. they don't have any sword infantry but they have passable main line infantry and fairly decent axe units. They have access to both hippeus lancers and noble blood cav. Originally posted by Thien:Colchis is the hardest now, small country, no pike, surround with enemies by far the hardest faction is the ardiaei because they basically have 1 half decent unit so you really need to rely on mercs to fill flaws in your roster and although initial recruitment is cheap as a faction bonus. Some people also say armenia is hard but they have some excellent cavalry units. The Seubi are definetly a challenge but I wouldn't say they are the hardest they have a decent unit roster although usually outmatched in many key areas they aren't really lacking in unit choice and never completely outmatched. once you survive with them they have the unit variety to steamroll everyone. No the seleucid empire is manageable if you just play it like western rome in rome BI expansion and control your loses.
